Five years ago, we purchased a lovely property in Edgartown on the iconic island of Martha's Vineyard. Out of a love for all things vintage, we decided to furnish the cottage nearly entirely with found pieces that yearned for another story in their lives. With the exception of a new mattress, sofa and bed linens (and the beautiful T.S. Harris art on the wall), the decor is all vintage — campaign chests, Ficks-Reed tables and chair plus ottoman, McGuire target chairs, a small farm table, and more.
After we tore it down to the studs (and then realized we needed new studs), we had a wonderful time with finishes and decor. The process was so creative and therapeutic, we decided to make a business out of it. And IDLE HOUR was born. From a garage full of vintage and antique decor,to a 2500 square foot warehouse in CT, we have enjoyed every moment of the hunt, refinishing and reviving our finds for their next act.
The Martha's Vineyard cottage is available for rent. The listing is available on VRBO and AirBnB or you can inquire at the form here. We hope you'll visit and enjoy the remarkable beauty that is Martha's Vineyard.
